The Crucial Kappa Theta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was chartered on April 26th, 1975 at Vanderbilt University. Brother Floyd Jones, instrumental in the founding of the Kappa Theta Chapter, and the late Brother Zenoch Adams, District Director for the State of Tennessee at that time, believed in establishing a chapter rooted in the principles of scholarship and excellence.  There were twelve young men, known as  the "Genesis 12", who began Alpha on Vanderbilt's campus. Their names are:

Gerald Thomas Washington

 Edward Lee Whaley Jr.

 Jerome Kearney

Walter L. Fields III

Terry Jerome German

Sircedrick L. Liggens III

Sherman E. Wilson

Elleston Craig Rucker

Larry Douglas Brandon

Lee L.J. Ingram

Douglas Renard Norman

Wilmoth H. Baker

Over the past 40 years, the Kappa Theta brotherhood has continued and strengthened this legacy through its scholarship, service, and leadership. With dynamic and unique programming, Kappa Theta is the only NPHC fraternity chapter at Vanderbilt to have won Chapter of the Year, and moreover, has won the award four times. Our Brothers have served as leaders in numerous student organizations on campus including the NAACP, NSBE, BSA, Vanderbilt Programming Board, Mosaic, Voices of Praise, Project I AM, Revamp, and more. In particular, the Voices of Praise Choir was actually founded by Bro. Kito Huggins (SPR95). Bro. Huggins would go on to serve as one of the few African-American VSG Presidents in Vanderbilt's history and would be followed in this position two years later by yet another Kappa Theta Brother, Jamaal Nelson (SPR96).

Though college days swiftly pass, Brothers of Kappa Theta still strive for success and can be found in top law schools, medical schools, business schools, and graduate programs throughout the country.  We are professors, entrepreneurs, businessmen, engineers, doctors, lawyers, and, overall, outstanding men in our communities.

We are the Crucial Kings

Long Live Kappa Theta
